ReZ 91 started out as a vision that Vince Chechock had many years ago. Vince, his wife Anita, and friend Dave Munroe brought that vision to life, and after much research, networking, and hard work, ReZ 91 was born.
For several years the Chechock basement was the home of the budding radio station, with Vince, Anita, and Dave receiving crash-course on air training.
With the Chechocks otherwise occupied with their respective careers, it fell to Dave to take over the daily full time on air duties. ReZ 91 began to take on a personality of its’ own. Playing a wide variety of music; Dave attracted (and held), a wide range of listeners. He became the ‘Voice of the ReZ’ and many of his fun seekers listened to him habitually. The regular guy who played ‘your’ music made for a loyal audience that stayed with ReZ 91 throughout the basement days right up to and through the Grand Opening at the present location in the Seniors’ Drop-In building located on Wasauksing First Nation. The transmitter is across the road in the Adult Learning Center, with the antenna standing to the side of the ALC.
When Dave left the station in 2003, Michelle Chechock became the Programming Director. Learning the daily operations and initiating many changes in the station infrastructure took a lot of trial & error, but the effort was well worth it, as ReZ 91 was able to offer more variety and higher quality sound into the programming through improved technology. During the summer of 2004, the station hosted and produced RezStock, a daylong concert featuring both local talent and well-known acts George Leach, Derek Miller, and the Wolfpack. Sponsors for the day included the Hawk 98.3, G.I.102, NISH101, Wasauksing Chief, Council & Membership, Vince & Anita Chechock, AVR, ANDPVA, Spirit Magazine, RezBluez, and our most generous patron to the aboriginal radio scene in central Ontario, Doug Bingley, President of the Rock95 and Star107 radio stations in Barrie.
